Right now, Peel Region's homeless need our help more than ever before. While life as we know it has changed drastically, the fight continues for our community’s most vulnerable and the frontline workers that serve them.
Through the COVID-19 pandemic, our partner beneficiaries in Peel Region have faced a number of increasing costs including additional staffing to help support the shelters high volume of guests, sanitation costs due to the increased scope and frequency of cleaning, personal protective equipment (PPE) to help keep their front-line staff protected and vulnerable residents safe and higher food supply costs as a result of more and more Canadians utilizing the system.
Armagh provides safe, supportive and transitional housing to women, with or without children, who are escaping abuse and provides them with a place to live for an extended period of time. In addition to having nine fully-furnished apartment units on their property, they also offer a number of supports to both the women and children staying with them including: trauma counselling, financial life skills training, homework assistance, classes on self-esteem and emotions, yoga, referral programs to other services (i.e legal aid, parenting support resources, etc.) and many more. Families continue to receive these supports, even once they’ve reintegrated into the community, for as long as they need.
"A lack of adequate and affordable housing can block a woman’s transition out of abuse, and related forms of oppression can lead to further marginalization and an inability to heal from trauma. In Canada, 31% of shelter users return to their abuser because of an inability to afford housing."
Net tournament proceeds will ensure that Armagh is able to continue to help women and break the cycle of domestic violence by funding direct program expenses such as equipment, program materials, supplies, food, building and property maintenance for the safety and security of the women and children, housing start-up costs, transportation for safety, security and medical emergencies, registration and other expenses related to conference or education programs allowing women and children to attend.

Regeneration Outreach serves men and women living in extreme poverty or those who are at-risk of, or experiencing homelessness in a safe and caring environment. They provide hot and hearty meals, as well as essential supports including healthcare and hygiene, clothing, and a number of skills classes including culinary arts, community gardening and social integration. They also run a Food Rescue and Distribution Program to prevent food waste in Brampton and the surrounding areas by rescuing and using food that would have otherwise been thrown out by grocery stores and restaurants.
The ultimate goal of this program is not only to decrease waste, but to increase food stability in their community. To date, Regeneration Outreach has rescued over 500,000 lbs of food since the program started three years ago. Your funding will go towards expanding this program so Regeneration can rescue even more food and increase their support in the community.
