Right now, Calgary's homeless need our help more than ever before. While life as we know it has changed drastically, the fight continues for our community’s most vulnerable and the frontline workers that serve them.
Through the COVID-19 pandemic, our partner beneficiaries in Calgary have faced a number of increasing costs including additional staffing to help support the shelters high volume of guests, sanitation costs due to the increased scope and frequency of cleaning, personal protective equipment (PPE) to help keep their front-line staff protected and vulnerable residents safe and higher food supply costs as a result of more and more Canadians utilizing the system.
YW Mary Dover House transitional housing provides emergency and short-term supportive housing beds for women experiencing homelessness. Not only do they provide housing, they also offer case management which supports women to achieve their goals and ultimately transition them into a community successfully. HHTH will help fund YWCA Calgary’s transition to a new custom facility which expands their operations and includes 20 emergency and 80 supportive beds.
Families come to the Inn seeking not only these supports along with basic necessities of food, shelter, and clothing, but they also arrive searching for a safe place for their children. They seek a place to call home, somewhere where they can be supported on their journey to find housing for their family, where they don’t have to worry each day and night about the safety of their children’s environment as they sleep, eat, and grow.
Trellis is a Calgary-based social services agency that grew from the amalgamation of Boys & Girls Clubs of Calgary and Aspen Family & Community Network Society on June 15, 2020. Growing from a combined history of 117 years, Trellis is building on the work of both legacy organizations to offer a comprehensive continuum of 33 programs for over 9,000 people each year designed to support children, youth, families and communities. The programs and services offered open a path upward for people from all sorts of backgrounds, including those caught at the intersection of society’s most complex needs.
Habitat for Humanity brings the community together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable home ownership. With the help of sponsors, donors, community partners and volunteers, we build homes alongside future Habitat homeowners to provide a solid foundation for better, healthier futures. Since 1990, we have partnered with nearly 300 families across southern Alberta, affecting the lives of more than 800 children.
