Welcome to Matt O'Connell's Fundraising Page!
In what has been a difficult past year, I have taken some time to reflect on how fortunate I am to still have access to food, shelter, and healthcare, as well as a strong social support network.
Over the next few months, I will be participating in the Hockey Helps the Homeless Canada Life Cup to raise funds and awareness for two homeless support agencies in Barrie, ON: Redwood Park Communities and the David Busby Centre.
As a result of COVID-19, HHTH has had to reimagine what their event could look like in the age of a pandemic. With our safety in mind, they’ve decided to shift from their typical tournament format to a reimagined fundraiser where Canadian communities come together to shutout homelessness.
Right now, Barrie’s homeless need our help more than ever. Homeless shelters in the city have been drained of funding and resources in order to support the new unprecedented costs they are facing as a result of COVID-19 including additional staffing costs, personal protective equipment (PPE), increased sanitation and food security. As we enter the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, our beneficiaries are still recovering from the effects of the first. Since March, they have been working around the clock to ensure our community’s most vulnerable residents are safe. But they can’t do it alone.
My goal is to raise $500, thank you for your consideration in supporting this cause to help bring hope to our most vulnerable through these difficult times. Hockey tournament or not, we can be bigger than the game.
Tax receipts will be issued upon receipt of the donation for all gifts $25 and above.
