That's why I'm participating in Hockey Helps the Homeless Canada Life Cup, raising funds for three local homeless support agencies right here in London.
One of those agencies helped save my life. Unity Project for Relief of Homelessness helped get me off the street and into my own apartment. Soon after, I was the victim of a violent assault that nearly killed me. Unity Project helped me keep my housing while I was in hospital and continued to support me throughout my recovery at home and for the long haul.
Going to the gym helped me regain confidence after that trauma. My stability and routine helps me keep fit and stay off drugs. I box, play road hockey and coach kids’ boxing. What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger.
Hockey Helps the Homeless supports my favourite charity, Unity Project, and other great organizations and programs committed to ending homelessness through housing, transportation initiatives, mental health support, education, health and wellness, training and employment.
Yeah, I'm bummed I can't play hockey with the pros this year but, this is bigger than the game. We need your help now more than ever. Please donate today!
Wish to donate by cheque? Please make cheques payable to Hockey Helps the Homeless, mailed to Head Office at 44 East Beaver Creek Rd, Unit #4, Richmond Hill, ON, L4B 1G8. Please specify player name in the memo line. Tax receipts will be issued upon receipt of donations of all gifts $25 and above.
