Hi there!
In past years, I have participated in the Hockey Helps the Homeless tournament and many of you have supported this worthy event with a donation. While we are unable to actually schedule a tournament this year due to COVID restrictions, we are continuing to fundraise for homeless kids.
Let me tell you a story.....
A while back I was able to visit the 360Kids facility where kids with no where to turn go to seek shelter. While there, I heard the story of a young 15 year old girl who was living at 360Kids at the time. Excited about a summer vacation to her parents homeland, she was tipped off by her sister that the trip was in fact not a vacation...but in fact a wedding..."her wedding". When she learned this, she confronted her parent and was told that she would do as she was told and if that meant getting married it would be so. She refused to go and her entire family banished her leaving her with no location or options to live. She was a bright, straight "A" student that fell victim to cultural expectations. I do not know what happened to her but do know the story changed my opinion on homelessness and the causing circumstances.
Again, this year, I am participating in the "Virtual" Hockey Helps the Homeless Canada Life Cup to raise funds and awareness for two local homeless support agencies right here in our community: 360°Kids and Blue Door. I am asking for as many contacts as possible to consider a donation of $10. I am supporting with a personal donation of $500 and hope 50 of you can support to match that amount!
Be a game changer today by supporting the cause and help bring hope to our most vulnerable through these difficult times. Hockey tournament or not, we can be bigger than the game.
Thanks for your thoughtful support!
Brad
