On Friday, November 26 2021 I will participate in the Vancouver Tournament of Hockey Helps the Homeless. It will be my seventh year of participation in this charitable event. We raise funds to support organizations and programs committed to ending homelessness through housing, transportation initiatives, mental health support, education, health and wellness, training and employment.
The tournament has raised over $500,000 annually. The monies raised are paid to organizations which deliver critical front-line services to society's most vulnerable, as selected by the HHTH executive. As you can imagine, those funds are an enormous boost to those organizations in allowing them to fulfill their mandate.
As the COVID era drags on, the disadvantaged need more help than ever. The pandemic has impacted us all, but indicators such as the number of violent incidents occurring downtown between strangers shows that that many are being pushed to greater acts of desperation simply to survive. While the medical system and other government-run agencies rightly direct scarce resources to treat patients directly affected by COVID, less can be directed to address problems associated with homelessness.
Given all of these factors, those of us who are able must consider if, and how, they might help. I therefore ask you to please donate to support this excellent cause. Any amount helps. I am grateful for your support, both now and in the past, and I thank you for considering my request.
Tax receipts will be issued upon receipt of the donation for all gifts $25 and above.
