In Toronto, it is estimated that there are over 2000 homeless youth on any given night, but together we can change this statistic. On April 18th, I will be participating in the Hockey Helps the Homeless Bay Street Tournament, raising awareness and funding for Eva's Initiatives, a local youth support agency right here in Toronto.
I'm playing in this tournament in loving memory of my late uncle Steve Prime. Steve was present and caring for homeless youth in his area, gave his time generously to his local church, and among countless other contributions, touched the lives of an entire community of loving friends and family. He opened up his home for many youth over the years, and he took in family in times of need. Steve coached youth hockey - his passion and attentiveness matched only by his HUGE smile and constant encouragement of young athletes. I play goalie with the hopes of having as much fun as he did attending tournaments with his team.
There’s more than one story when it comes to how people end up homeless and that’s why there is more than one way to help. Hockey Helps the Homeless invests in solutions that ensure fewer individuals and families end up on the streets. We support organizations and programs committed to ending homelessness through housing, transportation initiatives, mental health support, education, health and wellness, training and employment, but we need your help.
Be a game changer today by supporting the cause and help bring hope to our most vulnerable!
