Everywhere I travel these days it is increasingly apparent that homelessness is a major problem that continues to worsen - Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto. In Vancouver, it is estimated that over 3600 men, women and children are homeless on any given night. On November 29, I will be participating in the Hockey Helps the Homeless Vancouver Tournament, raising awareness and funding for local homeless support agencies right here in the city.
The really nice thing about this group is that almost all of the people involved are volunteers so most of the money raised goes to various charities/groups that support homeless people in Vancouver. Last year almost $500K went directly to those programs – just from the Vancouver tournament. We support the Salvation Army, First United Church, Covenant House, Last Door, and many more awesome organizations.
