I initially took part in this tournament as a player but after the first year, I immediately knew that I wanted to do more for this organization. For the past two years, I have served on the executive committee in both events and sponsorships to help raise money for Kingston youth. I have always considered myself very grateful and lucky to live the life that I do and for that reason, I wanted to give back to the community in a way that has always helped me. The Kingston weather frequently gets pretty cold with temperatures as low as -20°C (-4°F). As I walk to class every day in my three layers of coats and sweaters, I can only imagine how cold it must be for the less fortunate during these times. Money donated to the Kingston Youth Shelter is used to provide blankets, food and emergency shelter for youth between the ages of 16-24.
My goal for this year is $600. As I am aware that I have asked people for money year after year to donate for this tournament, I am in the process of brainstorming fundraising incentives to do if I reach my goal (ex. polar plunge in Lake Ontario). If anything has any suggestions let me know! In the meantime, I would appreciate if you could check out my fundraising page and possibly donate.
Thank you in advance!
