For the past 4 years, I participated in the Hockey Helps the Homeless Vancouver Tournament to raise much-needed funds for the homeless of all ages right here in our city. It is estimated that on any given night over 3600 men, women And children are homeless. It only take a short walk from our downtown core where most of us work to get a first hand view of the many in need.
For those who supported me in the past year, thank you very much for your kind generosity. Through your contributions, I was able to achieve over $10,000 to aid this cause. The 2017 Vancouver tournament disbursed close to $500,000 - a new record for Vancouver! We funded local projects such as Mom2Mom, First United Church, Covenant House, Lookout Emergency Aid Society, The Bloom Group, Urban Native Youth Association, Rain City Housing, and The Salvation Army, just to name a few. This year, on November 24th, I will hit the ice once again for the 2018 tournament. So I am again seeking your support for this very worthy cause. The proceeds from this tournament go directly to local based partnership agencies that support a variety of programs and services for homeless and at-risk men, women and youth, including employment and training, health services, and transitional housing.
The tournament receives excellent support from local Vancouver Canuck Alumni and a host of Vancouver businesses and Vancouver area men’s and women’s recreational hockey leagues. It is truly an honor to participate alongside retired professional players, including Geoff Courtnall, Cliff Ronning, BJ MacDonald, Jyrki Lumme, Garth Butcher and Kirk McLean in support of such a worthy cause. So many are giving their time and support to this initiative, and I am keen to participate, but can’t do it without your help.
I'm asking you to join me in making a difference. My goal is to surpass last year’s contributions of $10,000 as part of my continuing support of this worthy cause.
